Long Platform

At the heart of my campaign is a focus on student voice. My involvement in academia and student groups have made me familiar with issues pertaining to student life. As someone who is goal-oriented, I will be sure to be an effective liaison between SUS and SSMU - relaying information with the intention of implementing change within the student government to improve student life. From working on the development of the Schulich Library, to hosting mental health initiatives for science students, rest assured that your voice will be heard.
To better represent YOU, the SUS student body, I present to you my 2020/21 vision:

APPROACHABILITY

All SUS members deserve to voice their opinion, but often may find it difficult to approach SUS. Thus, through more welcoming office hours, I will facilitate ways to be heard. I often find the current office hours difficult to approach, and so with snacks, music, and open doors, I plan to create a friendlier atmosphere in the SUS office. From a more personal standpoint, I want to be more approachable as a person! I encourage all members to communicate with me either through email or facebook.

ACCESSABILITY

Focusing on accessibility entails acknowledging the diversity of students under SUS, and so I intend on building on this year’s feedback forms. I will work to allow the feedback forms to be accepted in as many languages as possible, starting with French. I will also encourage more straw polls (unofficial vote to show the popular opinion) during general assembly in order to better represent the views of each department. I will also work to put more focus on contentious SSMU motions by enforcing more consultation hours of these topics.

RESPONSIBILITY

As your SSMU rep, I will ensure that I will use all of my effort to better serve the science community. My involvement in SUS committees will continue in 2020-2021, where I will actively look for ways to improve student life through first-hand experience with planning events and interacting with students. I will professionally represent the Faculty of Science and Arts & Science to SSMU.

Thank you for reading my campaign for the 2020-2021 school year! If you want to see my vision put into action, consider voting for Joy Zhang for SUS Representative to SSMU.
