Long Platform

ACCOUNTABILITY

If elected, I would first focus on accountability of the SUS Executives, and members of the society. I would work to complete and ratify our Conflict of Interest Policy, as well as updating the current SUS Accountability by-laws. Our current By-Laws also stipulate the need for an Accountability Committee that overlooks all timesheets and Executive actions; while many of these responsibilities are incorporated now under the duties of the SUS Equity Commissioners, I would work to amend these by-laws so that all aspects of SUS Accountability are under a committee, specifically an autonomous body like the SUS Equity Commissioners. Another action I would take to ensure increased accountability among the SUS Executive would be increased constitutional and by-law training for all elected and appointed executives. This training would hopefully act as an introduction, or clarification of the Constitution by which we are mandated to abide by.

GOVERNANCE REFORM

Having worked as the SUS Executive Administrator this year, I quickly realized how convoluted the SUS Governance System is: many councillors at General Council, or even SUS Executives, do not know where to find By-Laws nor do they know the time constraints of passing motions, notices of motion or constitutional amendments. I would work to first streamline this system by restructuring the General Council to either include a new Parliamentarian position, or to further promote and emphasize the functions of the Constitutional Affairs Committee (under the VP Communications portfolio).

ACCESSIBILITY

Finally, another change I would make to the internal workings of the SUS would be the accessibility of all documents available to constituents--whether this be updates to the SUS website, or the creation of a new online collaborative workspace. This would also facilitate better communications with the departments under the SUS and the Executive Committee. Furthermore, if elected I hope to continue the current negotiations for space on campus for Science students, as our de facto common space (Schulich) is still under reconstruction.

To those of you that read through this, thank you!
