Long Platform

My Platform

My platform centers around awareness and the inclusion of all students in SUS events and initiatives. Are you confused about what you can and can’t recycle on campus? Don’t know how to maximize the mental health resources offered by McGill? Want divestment now? Are you frustrated with the Wellness Hub and want more initiatives for Science students to address the decline of our mental health? Do you like therapy dogs? Then you’ve come to the right place!
As VP Sustainability, I want to include all of you in SUS’s sustainable future. This can be done by:

1) Promoting divestment within SUS and in the greater McGill community, and finding ways for students to get involved in sustainable change on campus
- This can include supporting Divestment, Fridays for Future, Strike Week for Climate Justice, Wet'suwet'en Strong and other relevant strikes and protests.
- I would like SUS to partner with local, sustainable companies in the future.
- Sustainability events such as Green Science Workshops, DIY Beeswax Wrap and Plant Sales will allow students to help the environment in a fun and interactive way.

2) Creating peer support and self care initiatives to openly and freely talk about mental health with other Science and Arts & Science students
- I would love to create events such as Peer Support Art Days, Therapy Dogs, DIY Face Masks, Meal-Prep Workshops, and Bob Ross Wine Nights.

3) Increasing awareness of Local Wellness Advisors for Science and Arts & Science students in order to give students more options for improving their mental health

4) Making Science Frosh 2020 more sustainable, with less single use plastics.

5) Encourage and foster an environment of inclusivity within the Faculty of Science and Arts & Science
- Events such as an LGBTQ+ Scientist Panel, Women in STEM Wine and Cheese, and Black (Scientist) History Month, can help marginalized groups to find their voice within the science community at McGill.
- As part of supporting reconciliation, I would like SUS to work with Indigenous Science and Arts & Science students to create spaces and initiatives to allow Indigenous culture to be respected and celebrated appropriately.
- I would also like to increase awareness of Equity By-Laws and help SUS and other organizations create inclusive events for the entire McGill community.

Thank you again for taking the time to read this post! With your help, I look forward to making positive changes to SUS and the McGill community. If you would like to reach out to me, please don’t be afraid to send me a message with any concerns.

Experience

My time at McGill has given me plenty of experience to be suited for VP external. I became an active member of the SUS this year through initiatives with the SUS environment committee (SUSEC). Working with this committee has made me familiar with SUS policies and goals. As co-captain of the varsity women’s rugby team, I understand the skills it takes to work along others to achieve a greater goal. This opportunity has also allowed me to see the importance of maintaining positive relations with alumni and given me insights into funding initiatives such as McGill 24. As a Science frosh leader, Science games captain and Science Fac-O captain, I have been fortunate enough to meet many of our science peers. I will use these experiences and my love for the science community to best represent your views to groups external to the SUS.
